Actually, I almost wound up in Norway a long time ago. It's an interesting place to be. The language isn't terribly easy to learn, however nearly everyone in Norway seems to speak English, so making friends won't be quite as hard as you might think. If he's an "outdoorsy" type, he may find he really enjoys himself there.
