A friend mentioned recently that she is going on a week's holiday to Malta. I'd only heard of elderly relatives going there. If anyone has visited, I'd love to hear what it's like.

I looked at flights, and you can travel Luton-Malta return for £75 on Ryanair. Is flying Ryanair as bad as I've heard? Flights from Boston to Malta cost more Han £700 and involve long layovers.
Malta is fantastic! The people are so friendly and the place is so relaxing.

The food is gorgeous. Most of the dishes tend to be Italian but they have started to bring back local produce such as fried rabbit in white wine and garlic, mmmmm!
If you do visit, please go to one of the many bakeries and try a peacake. It's a flaky pastry parcel filled with mushy peas. No, honestly, they are excellent :)

If you're into clubbing, the main place seems to be St Julian's and Paceville in the east of the island. The local beer is very refreshing and quite cheap.

It's not our scene but Malta is very popular for scuba diving and the few beaches are extremely clean and well kept.

We prefer to stay in Gozo, the smaller island to the north. People say it's how Malta used to be years ago. So laid back it's horizontal!

Me and my other half visited a couple of times in the early 2000s and we'll be going for the 3rd year running next June. We're both 40 so not elderly either (I hope not anyway!)

We love it so much, we're saving to eventually retire there.

I have not been many places in the UK as I tend to only go to visit my boyfriend and his family, I love going to Blackpool and spending a few days there! Between the piers and the amusement park its just a great place to go! I love to homie feel Chadderton (the place my boyfriend lives) has compared to where I live in a big city and cant wait to move there this year! Applying in may/june cannot wait tolive in the UK!

The Cotswolds, beautiful area in general, can be touristy, but it is very picturesque

I haven't stayed there, well not when it was a bread and breakfast, but I was born in this house!

Bath
Beautiful city, expensive, but loads of history (Romans, Jane Austen...) and it's a pretty place too

I went to Salisbury for the first time recently and spent nearly all my time in the Cathedral. Well, first I had a cup of tea and a cream cake, then the cathedral and then a lovely pub :)

Lake District

I was recently over in the Homeland and spent a couple of nights in the Lakes. I have visited lots of places in the UK over the years but the Lakes has to be right up there with the best of them.

I stayed at the Holbeck Ghyll Country House and it was stunning.

I'm excited to explore England and Wales when I return. Countryfile episodes give me lots of ideas for places to see! :) I haven't come across any posts of expats in Northern Ireland yet. Hoping to learn more from others there. Having spent eight months in NI, we've had a wonderful time taking trips around the country. Hiking Slieve Donnard was among my favorites, and we were lucky to summit on a clear blue sky day! The Mourne Mountains are beautiful and I love the countryside around Strangford Lough. Ballintoy Harbor is a stunning place and I can't get enough of it! When I get back I look forward to taking the ferry to Scotland and becoming better acquainted with the country (I've only been to Edinburgh and Glasgow).

When I was growing up me and my family would take at least one holiday a year to 'The New Forest'. I highly recommend it if you want to get away in to nature. Might I suggest a holiday park called 'Sandy Balls' also. It was almost a second home to me.

Also the Chatsworth/Bakewell area are stunning countryside villages with an amazing feel to them. I am planning some kind of trip when my girlfriend comes over in September so she can see these places too.

Brighton and London! i love city life lol going to plays at night and walking around old buildings, sitting on a park with a drink.. I really like that type of holiday and those two city are perfect in my opinion :)

No doubt, it’s Cornwall and Cotswolds. Cornwall is defined by its magnificent coastline, with 300 miles of dunes and cliffs, medieval harbours and oak-forested creeks. And villages of the Cotswolds look as if they have strayed into the 21st century from another era. Amazing places, especially for those who want to escape from the urban.
