Hi,
I’ve just secured my 1year long stay visa so will be settling in . Travelling on 31/7/25.
I know I have 12 months in which I can export personal belongings but
My question is; can my furniture and belongings go out there before my anticipated travel date? And if yes, is there a time limit of how far in advance?
thank you!

When your household stuff arrives in , it will have to clear customs - and for that, the customs clearing agent will need a copy of your port with your visa and proof you have arrived in . Until that point, your shipment will need to be stored (at a cost, of course). Depending on how you are shipping your belongings, you should ask the shipper (removals company usually) about storage facilities. (The ones at customs in tend to be super expensive if you don't have other arrangements made.) There may be a way the shipper can clear your stuff and store it in , but ask them what documents they will need for something like that.

I do not quite understand this-the OP says she has a" 1 year long stay visa" Does this mean that she only has a visa for a year which is not renewable ie Visa ST or does she have a Visa TS "renewable" at the Prefecture

Good point - the terminology on visas can be really confusing.

The VLST is the up to one year ONLY visa. Cannot be renewed from within .

VLS-TS is the "1 year +" visa that can be renewed for an actual card version of the carte de séjour (residence permit) a couple of months before the visa/titre de séjour expires.
