Hi there! We are moving from London to Vienna next month. We are trying to work out what paperwork we will need for moving our things by ourselves, hiring a self-drive van and not with a freight company.

Our question is: what documents do we need to cross from the UK to (via the Eurotunnel)

Our understanding is this so far:
We need documentation for both entering the EU in and for our destination country of Austria.
For , we can show the Austrian customs form and our detailed inventory of our things.
For Austria, we can show the customs form, proof of new residence, proof of old residence from the UK, and again, our detailed inventory.
For the UK, we do not need to declare anything, as we are leaving.

Does anyone have experience of this? Are we correct?

Many thanks for your help,

Alex

Generally speaking, if you go through a customs agent, you need your residence permit (or visa, or other evidence of having permission to reside in the EU), port, a fairly detailed listing of what exactly you're bringing (inventory list) - including approximate date of purchase/acquiring, estimated current market value and (for things acquired within the last 6 to 12 months) purchase price (with copies of invoices if you have them). Low value items (say, clothing, kitchen utensils, stationery supplies, etc.) can be grouped with an estimated value and acquire date of "various."

In essence, you're functioning as your own "customs agent" so you want to have roughly the same sorts of documentation available.
