Hi,

I'm thinking about applying for a Long Stay Visa, Tourist. I'd like to be able to live and travel around 6 months consecutively. (As opposed to the Schengen nonsense of 3 months every 180 days.)

My understanding is that after 3 months in country you are required to your stay with the local authorities. Since I'd like to spend, say, 2 months here, then 1 month there, then 3 months somewhere how would the " my stay" apply?

Odd question, I know.

But, thought I'd see if anyone has had a similar problem.

Thanks so much.

Sincerely.

The visa you would be looking at is a long-stay visa in the "Visitor" category. A tourist visa is one for 90 days or less.

A long-stay visa implies residence for the term of your visa (and in fact, on arrival, your visa becomes your "residence permit"). That's the reason you need to your address of residence with the authorities. But they will require you to provide your address in when you apply for your visa. If you can arrange your accommodation before you apply for your visa, that should do the trick. But, wherever you stay, it should be someplace where you can be ed - either via postal mail or by email or SMS (so, someplace where you have phone and/or Internet service).
